Free includes one workspace per account, and each person can own one account on Free; a second workspace or a second account needs a paid plan.
Who this is for
The Owners and Billing members of an account on Free, or of one moving to Free.
What happens next
Adding a workspace on Free. The new-workspace wizard names the account, its plan and the one workspace it already holds, and offers Upgrade the account when you may change its plan. On Plan & billing the reason reads "Adding a workspace needs Starter or above." Every paid plan holds as many workspaces as you need. The open source plan also includes one workspace.
When an account with several workspaces moves to Free, one workspace stays active and the others become read-only:
The account's Workspaces page shows each one's Status, such as Read-only until {date}, and asks Which workspace stays active on Free. An Owner of the account can switch which one stays. With no choice made, the most recently active one stays.
A read-only workspace can still be read and exported. It is deleted 30 days after the move unless you upgrade, which makes it active again, or move it to another account first. When a workspace has been through this within the last 180 days, its new grace is shorter by the days it already used, and never less than 7 days.
One Free account per person. You can own one account on Free at a time. Creating another account starts it on a paid plan: "You already own {account} on Free. A second account starts on a paid plan." An account still waiting for its first payment counts as your Free account until it is paid.
If an account becomes a second Free account for one of its Owners, for example after its subscription ends while that Owner already owns another Free account, it keeps its workspaces but has no words: "{account} is a second Free account for {owner}, so it has no words. Resubscribe, move its workspaces, or close it."
