The glossary

The glossary is the list of terms that must be translated a particular way, or not translated at all.

The glossary is the list of terms that must be translated a particular way, or not translated at all.

Who this is for

Everyone sees it and its effect in the editor. Adding and changing terms needs permission to manage the glossary.

What happens next

Glossary terms are matched against source text and enforced during translation and during quality checks; a translation that departs from a glossary term is flagged.

A term can be:

  • translated a specific way in a specific language: your product name's official rendering in German,

  • do not translate: left exactly as written, whatever the language,

  • forbidden: a word that must never appear in the translation,

  • case-sensitive, so Pro and pro are treated as different terms.

In the editor, the context panel's Glossary section shows the terms in the string you are on, with what each must become, so a translator does not have to remember the list.

There is also an extraction pass: transglot can read your source strings and propose terms it thinks belong in the glossary. Those land in a review queue for you to approve or reject rather than being added silently.
