Add a target language

Add a language you want to ship, so transglot starts tracking and translating into it.

Add a language you want to ship, so transglot starts tracking and translating into it.

Who this is for

Developers, admins and owners. Translators can translate into a language but cannot add one.

Steps

  1. Open the project overview, or Settings then Languages.

  2. In the last row of the language list, type the language tag: the box reads Add a language: de, pt-BR, zh-Hans, ar…

  3. Select Add.

What happens next

The language joins the ledger with zero of your keys translated, and the row's Fill gap → link opens the editor filtered to exactly the untranslated strings in it. If automatic translation is on for the project, drafting starts by itself.

transglot normalises what you type to a canonical BCP-47 tag, so pt-br and pt-BR are the same language.

If it doesn't work

  • "Unknown locale: use a BCP-47 tag like de, pt-BR, or zh-Hans.": the tag is not recognised. Use the two-letter language code, optionally with a region or script.

  • "That language is already in this project.": including when it is the source language under a different spelling.

  • If your plan limits how many languages a project may have, the form says so instead of adding one.
