Check what a plan costs with a promo code before you buy it, and take the code through checkout.

Steps
Open Plan & billing for your account.
Pick the plan you are considering in Plans. The code is checked against the plan you picked, not the one you are on.
Under Promo code, enter the code and choose Apply.
Read the price it reports.
What happens next
A code that applies reports "Discount applied: the monthly price on {plan} becomes {price}." When you then buy that plan through checkout, the code goes with you. A code takes the list price as its starting point, so it replaces a launch price rather than adding to it.
If it doesn't work
"We do not recognise that code.": check the spelling.
"That code is not being accepted right now.": the code has expired, run out or been switched off.
"That code is not valid for the {plan} plan.": the code is limited to other plans. Pick one of those.
"That code could not be applied.": try again, or contact support with the code.
